The breaking sports news on the University of Washington quarterback Jake Locker is his announcement, that he will not enter the 2010 NFL Draft, but instead return for his senior season. Locker could have been the No.1 pick in April?s draft, said by many sports reports and broadcasters but Locker would rather finish what he started and see his full college playing days to the end.
There are many people who think that his decision might cost him, we?ve seen it just this past season when Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford, injury his shoulder twice and without question had his draft stock drop significantly. Locker could be making a big mistake when it comes to passing up millions to stay at Washington, the 2011 NFL Draft could see dramatic changes that would end up cutting rookie salaries down. This past season Locker threw for 2,800 yards with 21 touchdowns, he also lead a poor Huskies team to upsets over USC, Arizona, and California. Washington finished the 2008 season 0-12, Locker however, only started 4 games, it was not a pretty year for the Huskies.
So, is Jake Locker?s return to Washington a good choice? We?ll just have to wait and find out, young quarterbacks seem to be having more success in the NFL, although, its also said, that quarterbacks that stay until after their senior year, have a better success rate in the pros. Locker may not have those incredible college quarterback stats you?d think, but watching him play on the field, he is probably the most NFL ready quarterback. In his senior year in high school Locker lead his team to a 14-0 record and a state title, he was a fine rushing quarterback as well, nearly putting up as many rush yards then he had passing yards. In his freshman year at Washington, Locker won Pac-10 Freshman of the Year honors. The Washington quarterback is too excited about his team?s current future; he couldn?t leave this ship just yet. “After a great deal of careful thought and deliberation, I have decided to return to Washington and play my senior year.
I am very excited about this team’s opportunities and potential for the upcoming season and I am looking forward to being a part of it? Locker said. The quarterback completed almost 60 percent of his passes for 2,800 yards, he also ran for 388 yard with 7 rushing touchdowns, in what was the biggest turnaround in the country. The Huskies will expect to have a big year with Locker coming back, and should be a bowl team, something they haven?t participated in since the 2003 season. This past college football season the Pac-10 was considered to be the best conference in the nation, six of their 10 teams were ranked throughout the year and things seem to be only getting better for this pacific coast conference.
